welcome
We are a state-wide organization for the purpose of promoting effective legislation on animal welfare, care, health, cruelty and neglect...An information network of animal issues throughout West Virginia!  We need local humane societies and individuals to get involved to help us in our effort to improve animal welfare throughout West Virginia.

Tell us what your local humane society is doing to help the animals!!  Join FOHO as other groups have done to support statewide animal issues - together we can make it happen!

Humane Societies and shelters throughout WV were recognized on Jan. 31st, "Animal Appreciation Day" pdf file of resolution at the House Session of the WV State Legislature.  It was a very impressive day.  Our President, Betty Burkett was introduced on the floor of the House along with long time animal lobbyist and advocate, Sylvia Shafer.  Also Summer Wyatt, Miss West Virginia was included along with HSUS who had representatives in attendance supporting our day.

Summer Wyatt, Miss West Virginia spoke eloquently in support of animals at Animal Appreciation Day.  Her website contains her platform which is 'Making the Connection, Animal Cruelty and Family Violence'  She is a lovely and capable emissary for the plight of animals within our state.  We want to thank her for caring and choosing this platform, one which we all know to be an important one.  If you see her at an event, thank her for caring!  And tell her how proud we are that she is representing our cause.  Summer Wyatt's website

There is an organization called 'Animal Lifeline' that has done some remarkable work in Clay County, WV for the past two years.    They are working on a grass-roots level with county commissioners, the dog warden and humane officer, veterinarians, two dedicated shelter directors, and concerned citizens to start a viable animal rescue and spay and neuter program.   They are located in Doylestown, PA and travel to Clay County to do this amazing work.  You really must visit their website and view their movie links below to see what they are achieving.  Evidence again that a few dedicated people can make a difference.  Also it is a chilling reminder of how much we need to continue the fight to control our pet overpopulation in West Virginia.  And that Clay County is only one example of many counties throughout West Virginia facing the same issues. Our thanks to this dedicated group.

Please visit their website and find out more about how you can help them help us!

Michael Vick sentenced to 23 months for dogfighting charge!!!!!
He has lost endorsements and perhaps his NFL career is over. The NFL has suspended Vick indefinitely!   Shelters in West Virginia see the results of dogs involved in dogfighting.  In talking with local officials dogfighting occurs here just as it does in urban areas.   Thanks to HSUS and PETA for keeping the pressure throughout the media coverage on this topic.  Vick's plight hopefully will make it even tougher on those accused of this horrific activity.  Watch the winning videos on 'You Tube' from the HSUS campaign against dogfighting?   Watch the winning videos by clicking on blue area.   My favorite was 'Ms Paisley Sky.'

Read an article that gives Sylvia Shafer (animal lobbyist)  some much-deserved appreciation!

Read a tribute to Charlie.
