FOHO WV Newsletter, Winter 97-98

As part of our agenda to help Humane Societies in West Virginia, we are encouraging them to keep in touch with each other by exchanging newsletters. We think this will be a great way to keep up with what is going on in different parts of the state and to explore new ideas. I know that some groups do not have newsletters at this time but maybe they will be encouraged to start one even on a very small scale. I hope you will agree with me when you look at the sampling of newsletter information I received when I sent letters to Humane Societies to share information with us and others around the state. I really enjoy receiving news from other s and I'm sure you will also. Thanks for sharing!. Please send newsletters to my attention:

A wonderful program to assist the elderly and less fortunate with urgent pet care has been very successful.

FOHO board member, Valerie Holsinger is excited about what is going on in her county! Preston County Humane Society has recently instituted adoption fees for all dogs and cats with mandatory spay/neuter for purebreds. Fund raising and donations has resulted in doubling the size of the shelter which was a much needed improvement. The local support has been wonderful and has resulted in this shelter really moving forward to assist in reducing pet overpopulation. Society recognizes loyal and devoted shelter workers! The Humane Society of Parkersburg understands the burden of many shelter workers in dealing with the many homeless animals that pass through their doors. We are all aware that most are not adopted out and difficult decisions have to be made.
