Will we ever have a Spay/Neuter Van traveling throughout West Virginia? Maybe another van is needed?  Or maybe we should try for a stationary low cost for low income spay neuter clinic in North Central West Virginia?  You may hear more about this in the future.
T
here are approximately 123 Spay-Neuter mobile vans in the United States, making a difference in pet overpopulation.  There is a van traveling in Southern WV which  has not been allowed to travel beyond a 50 mile radius around the state. Find out more.  SB 45 was introduced in Legislative Session 06 to get it traveling without those restrictions but SB 45 did not even make it out of committee.  FOHO supported changes to the bill indicating that  mobile spay neuter units could serve low income persons which seemed to be a factor for its opposition by the veterinary community.   In fairness to the vets, we are not sure that these changes were communicated to those opposing the bill.    However, we are again disappointed by the lack of support to overcome pet-overpopulation in West Virginia.  We know THE solution is widespread spaying and neutering of animals throughout the state.    Give us your suggestions on how we can accomplish this.  Perhaps a stationary low cost clinic in North-central WV is needed?

Read below how excited we were when we introduced the new state of the art WV Van at our 2001 conference!
We thought we would be saving the lives of many unwanted animals.  Although this van has saved many animals, it is being used
in Ohio and Kentucky and Southern WV.  It will not be allowed to travel to any other areas of West Virginia.  We need a mobile
clinic or van in North Central West Virginia.

History of the Van:
SPAYMOBILE UNIT FINALLY HITS THE ROAD IN WEST VIRGINIA!

Tour the unit at our May 19, 2001 Conference!

Through the efforts of FOHO, TRACS in Huntington, and a very generous donation by Laura Davis of Clarksburg, a mobile spay/neuter clinic has arrived in WV. "If it weren't for the networking that FOHO has done, this mobile unit would not been here. FOHO is going to put WV on the map when it comes to spaying and neutering." predicts Donna Spencer, Director.

"We are currently in the initial stage of implementing this program. One unit will not carry the entire state, but it sure is a start! The first unit has its base in Huntington. This unit will travel in a radius of fifty miles at this time. We are hopeful this will be extended after we ascertain the success of the van. Perhaps another benefactor will come forward with a donation for a second van to come into the Northern counties where there is a great need.

Because of space limitations, the unit will do cats and small dogs only. We know there is an overpopulation problem with large dogs and the issue will be addressed, we just can't do it right now.

Our dream is that eventually the van can come North or leave the fifty mile radius restriction. Then "Captains" will set up appointments around the state and have money collected before we bring the unit to the area. This will reduce the no shows", which could be a potential problem.

If you are interested in being a "Captain" please let us know.
